Report a claim. A person will answer.
Storm, accident, theft or a burst pipe. Call our claims line any hour, or use your carrier's direct number below.
What to do in the first hour
These six steps protect your family, your property and your claim. Then call us.
- Make sure everyone is safe and call 911 if anyone is hurt or there is a fire or gas smell.
- Prevent further damage: shut off water, tarp an open roof, board a broken window.
- Photograph and video everything before cleanup, including serial numbers.
- Keep receipts for tarps, fans, hotel rooms, meals and emergency repairs.
- For auto accidents, exchange information and get a police report number.
- Do not throw away damaged items until the adjuster has seen them or approved it.
How a claim moves from call to check
Call us or the carrier claim line
We open the claim, confirm your coverage and deductible, and give you a claim number the same day.
An adjuster is assigned
The insurance company assigns an adjuster, usually within one to three business days. After major storms it can take longer, and we push when it does.
Inspection and estimate
The adjuster inspects the damage. For larger property claims our claims advocate can meet them on site.
Review the estimate together
We compare the estimate to contractor bids. If something is missing, we ask for a supplement.
Payment and repairs
Payments may come in stages, often with your mortgage company named on property checks. We help you work through that.

One roof, one storm, one phone call
Day 0
A nor'easter drops an oak limb through the roof of a South Portland cape at 2 am. The claims line answers on the second ring.
Day 2
Kate meets the carrier's adjuster on site and flags interior plaster damage the first estimate missed.
Day 9
A revised estimate is approved and the first check covers emergency tarping, a hotel and the roof.
Week 6
New roof, repaired ceilings and a closed claim. The family paid only their deductible.

Claims questions
Either works, and calling us first helps. We report the claim, explain what the policy covers and stay involved until it is settled.
Yes. Our claims line at (207) 555-0139 routes to a licensed agent or the carrier's 24/7 claims team after hours.
It can, depending on the type and size of the claim and the carrier. We talk through small losses before you file so you can make an informed choice.
Make sure everyone is safe, prevent further damage with temporary repairs, take photos and keep receipts. Then call us.
Not sure if it is worth filing?
Call before you file. We will talk through your deductible, how the claim may affect your premium and what the policy covers.
